Killen rangers ladies hosted Carnmoney in the top of the table clash and ran out 3-1 winners to go joint top in division 2. With Killen starting of as slight underdogs they knew they had to start strongly, and they where making chances early on with Aimee Davis and Louise Coyle narrowly missing the target from the edge of the box. However it was Carnmoney that came closet to scoring the opener, a cross swung in from the right found their striker who hit it on the volley only for Majella Aiken to get fingertips to it and deflect it onto the crossbar. Moments later Chloe Scott was harshly judged to have handed the ball which resulted in a penalty to Carnmoney but luckily for Killen this resulting penalty was blazed over the crossbar. After this Killen where still being put under pressure but their strong defence of Emma Harpur, Chanelle Darragh, Chloe Scott and Stacey Johnston made sure Carnmoney never had any more chances before half time.
Killen came out stronger in the second half and where on the attack straight away with good work in the middle from Gemma Frazer and Wendy Forbes resulted in Chelsea Sheerin being released who squared it for Louise who hit it low and hard only to see her shot rebound of the post. It took until the 58th minute until Killen got the breakthrough, Wendy played a through ball to Chelsea who ran onto it and chipped the keeper from 25 yards. Killen where then on the ascendency and where 2-0 up soon after, brilliant work from Chanelle and Gemma resulted in the later playing the ball out to Emma Kee who beat two players before swinging in a inch perfect cross to the back post where Louise Coyle calmly headed into the roof of the net. It was against the run of play that Carnmoney got a goal back, a quickly taken free kick found Killens usually solid defence sleeping and the Carnmoney striker slotted the ball in under Majella.
This goal got Killen back into life again and they soon got their two goal advantage back again. Subs Zara Pinkerton and Iris Sproule linked up brilliantly before the later turned and played the ball out to Gemma who played in Emma Kee in which she found Chelsea with at through ball and she beat a defender and crossed it into the back post where Emma Harpur was waiting to tap it into the net. Killen then held out some Carnmoney pressure to record a very valuable win. Killen ladies next fixture is on Friday the 30th May at Vaughans holm Newtonstewart where they host Chimney Corner in the quarter final of the division 2 league cup, kick off 7.30.
